Dysfunctional Uterine Bleeding
This is the medical term for heavy periods where no cause has been found. Often heavy menstrual periods can be due to fibroids. In the absence of these women can still have debilitating heavy periods. Often women describe them as ‘flooding’ through tampons/pads. Low progesterone is most likely the cause and treatment with bio/body identical progesterone can often help treat the symptoms enabling women to carry on with their normal lives.
Common symptoms:
Very heavy periods, clots and flooding, severe period pain, periods impacting on daily living
Treatment:
Bio/body-identical progesterone
Tranexamic acid to help with the bleeding
