Pre-menstrual Syndrome

This refers to the symptoms women can experience in the run up to the period. These can be both emotional and physical symptoms such as bloating, breast tenderness, mood swings, anxiety, night sweats and insomnia. Symptoms can have a significant impact on quality of life. The cause is normally due to a lack of progesterone production in the luteal phase of the cycle. Commonly progesterone levels decline from our 30’s hence why symptoms can become more apparent in the run up to the menopause.

Common symptoms:

Bloating, breast tenderness, low mood, anxiety, irritability, poor sleep, night sweats, joint pains, headaches/migraines, sugar cravings, fatigue, muscle/joint aches, constipation/diarrhoea, acne

Treatment:

Bio/Body identical progesterone in the luteal phase of the cycle or throughout in some cases
