Premature Ovarian Insufficiency

This refers to when menopause happens earlier than the usual age of 45-55. It can also be as a result of surgery or as a side effect of treatment like radiotherapy for other conditions. It can be very distressing for women especially if they have not yet had children.

Taking HRT can help prevent osteoporosis, cardiovascular disease and Alzheimer’s. It can also be helpful when given cyclically to provide options for possible further fertility treatment.

Common symptoms:

Absence of periods or irregular periods , hot flushes/night sweats, poor sleep, mood swings, anxiety, vaginal dryness, low libido

Treatment:

  • Bio/Body identical hormone replacement therapy - Oestadiol, Progesterone, Testosterone and DHEA.

  • Immediate referral to a Fertility Gynaecologist may be needed.
