Pre/Peri Menopause

Pre-menopause refers to the years before menopause from 20-30’s when a woman is still menstruating. From 30 onwards our progesterone production starts to decrease. This can lead to symptoms of feeling out of balance especially in the run up to a period.

Perimenopause refers to the time before you actually become menopausal. It is when ovarian activity is fluctuating so you experience prolonged gaps between periods when you may experience menopausal symptoms such as hot flushes and mood swings and then periods return for a few months. This normally happens in the run up to menopause around the age of 45 and can last months to a few years. Balancing hormones can be helpful at this stage to relieve symptoms.

Common symptoms:

Mood swings, irregular/lack of periods, insomnia, anxiety, irritability, hot flushes/night sweats, breast tenderness

Treatment:

Bio/Body-identical progesterone +/- Oestradiol +/- Testosterone
